Indian Runners are a very special breed of domestic duck. They attract attention because of their tall, upright bodies and their incredible reputation for egg-laying. Indian Runners, like most breeds of domestic ducks, are a development of the wild mallard. They are set apart from other domestic ducks not only by the geography but in their shape, bone structure and blood proteins. They are unique. Indian Runners are particularly useful as Herding ducks, which is their primary purpose at Free to Be Ranch. 

The Magpie Duck is a lightweight breed of domesticated duck. Developed in the early 20th century, they are raised as general purpose ducks, since they have attractive markings, are highly productive layers of large eggs and are great with children and herding dogs.
